Wednesday

After months of both sides laughing and pointing, it's finally over.

And what a day it was.

The visit to the Wortham to see "Much Ado About Nothing" was actually great, although I was pretty worried about passing out during the first two numbers. Nothing against the performance, but I have issues staying awake when I sit in a comfortable chair in a dark room for any length of time. The story line is much funnier when sung than when merely reading it for a college class. Afterward when we to Discovery Green for a picnic lunch, and all seemed surprisingly well with the world. We arrived back at school for half of ninth and all of tenth period, and I actually made the kids work. Yes, I'm mean like that.

Last night was out first session back at the Rice track, and since I'm running SA in 12 days, I had a special workout: 6 x 1K @ 3:45-3:55 with 2:30 rest. It. Was. Hard.
Granted, I'm pretty tired to begin with this days, but the pace was pretty challenging for me on a good day and with other runners. Solo? Well, I stayed close to the goal pace: 3:57, 3:52, 3:54, 3:56, 3:56, 3:54. Being few seconds off was discouraging, but now it's over, and I declare my taper officially ON. Except for Thursday.

My election night activity of choice was pizza and drinks at Matt's with about twenty other Bayou City folks, and I must say Matt was more probably excited than an Australian has any right to be. It was amusing, as the crowd was mostly folks who at least leaned slightly to the left-I may have been more upright than most.

Anyhoo, the Romano's pizza was most excellent, more fluids were available than I had any need for on a Tuesday night, and I cannot begin to articulate the feeling coursing thru me when I saw the TV declare, "Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States."

Like 911, I think I will always remember exactly where I stood (OK, sat, my glutes and were killing me) when history was made, and I felt honored to spend it with good friends. Regardless of your views, you must admit that was a monumental moment. But you probably won't.

What are your goals for San Antonio? Stout, no doubt.

I wish you all the best, but SA is usually a MoFo, come marathon weekend....we would always get teased with cold weather leading into the week of the marathon, then like clockwork, hot and humid on race weekend! More that a few times!

Crossing fingers for cool weather...

Your graph is pretty accurate. Do college students in their 20's count as kids? :-)
